British doctor Wakefield make headlines around the globe in when he claimed a link between the Measles, Mumps and Rubella Doctof vaccine and autism. His findings — published in medical journal The Lancet — are believed to have led to widespread concerns among parents giving their children the jab. The Lancet retracted the story in after Wakefield’s article was found to have been «dishonest» by the General Medical Maked.
IMPLICATIONS
Andrew Jeremy Wakefield born [1] [2] is a discredited British ex-physician who became an anti-vaccine activist. As a gastroenterologist at the Royal Free Hospital in London, he published a paper in The Lancet claiming a link between the measles, mumps, and rubella MMR vaccine and autism. Other researchers were unable to reproduce Wakefield’s findings, [3] [4] and a investigation by Sunday Times reporter Brian Deer identified undisclosed financial conflicts of interest on Wakefield’s part. The British General Medical Council GMC conducted an inquiry into allegations of misconduct against Wakefield and two former colleagues, [7] focusing on Deer’s findings. The British Medical Journal described Wakefield’s work as an «elaborate fraud». His continued claims that the vaccine is harmful have contributed to a climate of distrust of all vaccines and the reemergence of other previously-controlled diseases.

Wakefield has stood by his initial research.
